Radiant Heating and Geothermal Solutions
Radiant heat systems use tubes beneath the floor to warm your home from the ground up, without using forced air. Geothermal heating uses stable ground heat to warm and cool a building’s interior. These two systems can work together to provide the ultimate comfort system.
Advantages of energy-efficient radiant heating and geothermal:
- Superior comfort
- Cost savings
- Zone control
- Consistent and reliable
- Low maintenance
- Quiet operation
Radiant Floor Heating Options
Customers have two options for underfloor heating: electric or hydronic (hot water) systems. Each option has different installation methods. Electric systems cost less initially, as they are easier to install. They use electric cables or mats laid under the flooring. Electric systems are ideal for retrofits in smaller areas, such as bathrooms. Hydronic systems circulate hot water through a series of tubes. They are best for large areas or new construction builds.
How Radiant Systems Operate
Radiant floor systems transfer heat directly to people and objects via infrared radiation. The circulating heating medium of electrical cables or heated water transfers the heat to the floor. Warmth radiates up from the floor, creating a comfortable and even temperature. These systems operate quietly and don’t circulate air.
Energy-Efficient Underfloor Heating Benefits
Underfloor heating systems consume less energy because they operate at lower temperatures than traditional heating systems. They are also more efficient because they don’t use air ducts, eliminating heat loss and cold spots. Because underfloor heating systems don’t circulate air, your indoor air quality will improve with fewer allergens.
Radiant System Maintenance & Inspection
Once installed, radiant floor systems require little maintenance. Fraas Heating & Cooling recommends an inspection at least once a year. We provide inspections as part of our radiant heating services, along with thorough flushing of hydronic systems every three to five years. Regular professional inspections can help pinpoint minor issues before they become significant problems.
Geothermal Integration Support
Combining underfloor systems with a geothermal heat source can make your home more comfortable and energy-efficient. Geothermal systems use a heat pump to draw warmth from underground. If you have a geothermal system, you can count on our team for regular service and maintenance.
